Setting up your N26 Account
To add your N26 account to Outbank, you will need the same login credentials that you use for logging into the N26 website:
- Email address
- Password
Since N26 does not offer any data via the FinTS and Outbank does not use any PSD2 APIs, the information is retrieved directly from the online banking website. Outbank logs into the N26 portal, scans the transaction list, and opens each transaction individually to extract additional details such as foreign currencies or the counterparty's IBAN. Since this method requires many actions, the app may hit the rate limit during the initial query with N26 - expecially, if you have many transactions.
Therefore, a step-by-step query process has been introduced: If you click "Skip details" when setting up the account, Outbank will retrieve transactions with the details available in the transaction overview on the N26 website ('Spaces' > 'Select space' > 'Check transaction list'). These include:
- Name of Counterparty
- Amount
- Transaction date
How Does Two-Factor Authentication Work with N26?
Each query must be confirmed using two-factor authentication (2FA). To make queries more efficient, you can reduce the query interval of N26 accounts. Additionally, you can group all accounts under one access in an account group. This way, only a single confirmation or TAN query is required for the entire group when updating.
Payments
As N26 currently does not provide any data through "HBCI+" or "FinTS PIN/TAN", Outbank fetches the data via screenscraping directly from the website, which means only balance and transaction queries are available.
TAN-based transactions can only be supported once the bank enables the feature via "HBCI" or "FinTS PIN/TAN.'
